Introduction
Arete is the Greek word for excellence, virtue
In classical Humanities
In Christian theology
In life
We want to bring excellence back to education. After 10 years of experience, seeing the wisdom of the traditional approach.
Our Distinctives: Classical, Christian, Practical
Classical
Many teachers and administrators are new to classical education. In many schools, "classical" is a new theory about they way schools are supposed to work, but not a true description of how the school works. Among the most common problems in classical schools are "mission drift" and inexperienced teachers.
Arete is built upon 10 years of experience in the classical classroom. We mean to refocus "classical education" onto excellence:
Classical: Arete is centered on the excellent works of Christian culture and thought.
-Focus on upper-level Humanities study.
-Interest in celebrating the best works, and in depth
-C.S. Lewis as a guide
Christian
In some schools, "Christian" is a description of a common faith held by all teachers.
In a truly Christian school, the Christian worldview is not a just a subject, but the environment in which everything else is understood.
Christian: Arete is centered on the excellencies of God.
-Christians need biblical theology
Practical
Arete is crafted to promote virtue of godly character and lifestyle.
-Christian character
-Passing on practice
-Traditional understanding: young men and women have proper design and
excellence
-Life skills
