Nothing which was not in the teachers can flow from them into the pupils. C.S. Lewis
Arete Academy exists to help students grow into well-rooted and flourishing Christian men and women. A school is excellent only if it accomplishes that end.
To serve that end, Arete is beginning in 2026, led by three guiding principles.
Christian, Practical, and Classical
Christian
Arete is committed to being an excellent Christian school.
At Arete, biblical Christianity is the soil in which everything in our school grows. Every lecture, every discussion, and every hands-on work project is something that grows out of Christian soil. Everything we do at Arete is the unfolding of our life in Christ.
Practical
Arete is also committed to being a school marked by virtue and practical excellence.
At Arete, we want to pass on traditional practices alongside traditional knowledge. This means we want to work alongside parents to pass on culture, skills, handicraft, and customs. We know that our school culture must be strongly cultivated-- so that our students "catch" a more excellent way of life.
Our commitment to practical excellence is our first stake in the ground. As Arete grows in 2026, this commitment holds the school in place.
Classical
Thirdly, Arete is committed to being an excellent classical school.
Arete is built upon 10 years of first-hand experience in classical education. We know that without time-tested, experienced teachers, classical schools experience mission drift.
At Arete, we believe that classical schools should pass on the great works of Western Christian culture. We believe that students should read Augustine, Dante, Luther, Calvin, Shakespeare, Wordsworth, Tocqueville, and Lewis. At Arete, we read the classics together under the leadership of a teacher with a background in theology and 10 years of teaching experience,
This commitment to classical excellence is our second stake in the ground.
Summary
In 2026, Arete Academy was formed to help students grow into well-rooted and flourishing Christian men and women.
We are defined by three distinctives:
-We are an excellent Christian school (soil).
-We are marked by virtue and practical excellence (stake 1).
-We are an excellent classical school (stake 2).
As we grow in the 2026 calendar year, will you grow with us? We are looking for students for 2026 summer classes and the 2026-27 school year.
